The Community Service Van Program is a Specialized Service providing vehicles to approved agencies serving elderly and individuals with disabilities at no cost. This program began in 1996 through the Kalamazoo County Care-a-Van Program and is funded in part by the Michigan Department of Transportation. Currently, the program has ten vehicles available.  One is located in Portage.  Another is located in Vicksburg.  Eight are stored at Metro Transit. Volunteer drivers, trained and certified by the Department, use the vehicles to transport individuals up to 60-miles from Kalamazoo (remaining in the State of Michigan). Vans are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis and the program is designed to complement existing Metro Transit services.
